Welcome to the Bluff City-the land of blues, barbecues, rock, soul, and some of the best hip-hop/rap on this side of the Mississippi!
Memphis, Tennessee is a city rich in history, culture, and soulful music. But let’s be real, you don’t have all day to explore this amazing place.
Give me just 5 hours, and I’ll show you some of the best Memphis has to offer.
Ready?
If you only have 5 hours to spare in Memphis, here are 5 things what you MUST do:
Visit the Lorraine Motel/Civil Rights Museum:
The Civil Rights Museum is one of the crown jewels of Memphis, and a MUST see.
It’s jam-packed with information about African and African-American history, and of course chronicles the time of Dr. Martin Luther King, and his work before he was assassinated.
A thorough tour definitely takes more than 5 hours, but at least stop by and take a picture in front of the Dr. King’s motel room.
Memphis BBQ nachos are single-handedly the best thing I’ve ever tasted in the city.
You can also grab Rendezvous famous seasoning to take back home with you.
Drive by Graceland (just to say you’ve seen it):
I’m really proud of the fact that I have lived in Memphis for over 7 years and I have never been to Graceland.
However, I suggest you at least drive by it. *shrugs* Just to say you’ve seen it.
Go to the top Pyramid aka Bass Pro Shop and see the Mississippi River:
Memphis means enduring and beautiful. The Pyramid (now known as the Bass Pro Shop) has become a staple of the city. You can ride to the top, and look out over the beautiful Mississippi River and Arkansas for $10. Enjoy some time shopping, or playing games in the Pyramid as well.
